Dan Skopec is vice president, regulatory affairs for Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), Sempra Energy’s regulated California utilities. He oversees all regulatory affairs and is the utilities’ primary representative before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC).
Skopec has extensive experience in environmental and energy policy. Prior to joining Sempra in 2008, he served as Undersecretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA). As former Deputy Cabinet Secretary for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, he served as a liaison between the governor’s office and the California Department of Food and Agriculture, California Natural Resources Agency, CalEPA and CPUC, as well as the governor’s Washington D.C. office.
From 1996 to 2003 Skopec served in various staff positions at the U.S. House of Representatives, focusing on energy, natural resources and trade policy.
Skopec holds a master’s degree in international economics from George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from the University of California, San Diego.
