New Years 2021

Happy New Year from Gridworks! We begin the year with a renewed focus on our mission: to convene, educate, and empower stakeholders working to build a healthier and more equitable, sustainable and affordable future for all through decarbonization. 

As we bid good riddance to 2020, we want to share some of our accomplishments from the year of the plague and our New Year’s resolutions for 2021.

2020 Accomplishments

• Direct contributions to six state utility commission decisions in four western states: California, Hawaii, Oregon and Colorado. These orders:

  • Kick-started Gas Transition Planning

  • Furthered Interconnection Reform

  • Accelerated Vehicle Grid Integration

  • Opened Oregon and Colorado to Distribution Planning

  • Drove Performance-Based Ratemaking in Hawaii

• Nine industry-leading thought-pieces, including:

  • Advanced Rate Design Working Group Report, on behalf of the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission

  • An Evaluation of Integrated Resource Planning, on behalf of the California Public Utilities Commission

  • Blog series on reforming Resource Adequacy

  • Vehicle-Grid Integration Working Group Report on behalf of the California Joint Energy Agencies

  • COVID response recommendations on behalf of the Alliance for Clean Economy

  • Value of Solar + Storage Working Group 4 Report, on behalf of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District

  • Rule 21 Working Group Report, on behalf of the California Public Utilities Commission

  • Grid Integrated Buildings Report and Building Decarbonization Research Agenda on behalf of the Building Decarbonization Coalition

• 62 events facilitated with over 2,100 participants

We wish to acknowledge and thank our partners and all the participants in Gridworks’ 2020 initiatives.

2021 New Year’s Resolutions

• We begin the year with a portfolio of projects critical to the advancement of our mission, including:

  • Continuing Resource Adequacy Reform in the west

  • Recommending a Long-Term Gas Resource and Infrastructure Planning framework in California

  • Developing GridLab-D, an open-source distribution system modeling tool

  • And much, much more.

• We are deepening our organization’s commitment to diversity and equity with training in inclusive facilitation.

• We are expanding our capacity to serve new partners throughout the western United States.
