Xcel Energy/Southwestern Public Service Company (SPS) 2026 Integrated Resource Plan
Overview
In 2022, New Mexico implemented a new process to engage residents in long-term electricity resource planning. Every three years, the state’s larger utilities are required to develop an integrated resource plan—a roadmap for how they will serve customers over the next 20 years. These plans guide decisions on electric reliability, affordability, the clean energy transition, and economic development—issues central to New Mexico’s future.
SPS is beginning its 2026–2046 planning process. You are invited to join the conversation and help inform SPS’s future electricity choices. Additional information is also available on SPS’s website.
Background
The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (PRC) requires the state’s investor-owned electric utilities to engage stakeholders through an appointed facilitator while developing their 20-year Integrated Resource Plans (IRP). The PRC’s final order (Sept 2022) and final order upon reconsideration (Nov 2022) describe the requirements. For more information about results from SPS’s 2023 IRP stakeholder engagement process, see NM IRP FSP Report.
